Stephen Eichhorn | ARTIST TALK + BOOK SIGNING

December 1, 2018

Carrie Secrist Gallery is pleased to announce a talk and book-signing with gallery artist Stephen Eichhorn on the occasion of his current solo exhibition CEASELESS WHEEL. Eichhorn will be signing copies of his book Cats & Plants (Zioxla) during this event, taking place at Carrie Secrist Gallery on Saturday, December 1st from 1 to 3PM.

Eichhorn’s artist talk, conducted by Adrain Wong, will cover a variety of concepts around his artistic practice. Topics covered may include: the role of his studio practice as it relates to larger themes in contemporary art world, art-making and dissemination in the age of Instagram and other social media outlets, themes and concepts incorporated into his current exhibition Ceaseless Wheel, and – of course – Cats & Plants.

Cats & Plants, Stephen Eichhorn’s debut book, was recently released in its second edition in the fall of this year. The 152-page book includes more than 200 images of cat collages of felines balancing plants, along with the occasional shell or mineral, on their heads. Equal parts strange, attractive, hypnotizing and bizarre, this strange melding of seemingly disparate entities are nonetheless visually appealing when delicately placed into book form. Cats & Plants was designed by Affaire, a Barcelona-based art and design studio and is published by Zioxla, an independent publishing house.

Stephen Eichhorn (b. 1984, United States) lives and works in Chicago. He has had solo exhibitions at the Franklin Park Conservatory, Elmhurst Art Museum and the Chicago Athletic Association. His work has also been included in group exhibitions at the Tower Hill Botanic Gardens, the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, NEIU Fine Arts Center Gallery, Illinois State Musem Lockport Gallery and the Museum of Arts and Design, New York. Stephen Eichhorn is represented by Carrie Secrist Gallery.
