Carrie Secrist Gallery is pleased to announce our solo booth presentation by gallery artist Andrew Holmquist at UNTITLED, Miami Beach 2016. The Carrie Secrist Gallery booth will include a site-specific wall installation created specifically for UNTITLED, a suite of large-scale paintings, a series of works on paper, and an installation of Holmquist’s ceramic sculptures.
Andrew Holmquist’s paintings, ceramics and works on paper present an ongoing exploration of dimension and abstraction with ambiguous representations collapsed into material investigation. The tension that exists between the abstract and the figurative create a theatrical dialogue ladened with ambiguities that prompt the viewer to extend their contemplation. The development of the characters that occupy each medium are emphasized by the importance of geometry, structure, and material. Perspective becomes it’s own character in the narrative, prompting sensations that are simultaneously elusive and explanatory.
Holmquist (b. 1985, United States) lives and works in Berlin, Germany. His exhibition history includes three solo presentations with the Carrie Secrist Gallery. An editioned artist book was produced by the gallery for his most recent exhibition this past January, Stage Left. Holmquist will be participating in the exhibition Eternal Youth at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago in March of 2017. He is an MFA graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
